I was honored to know Hester Berry for a majority of my life. Her desire to serve the Lord was evidently the most important calling in her life. However, other than the lost souls she was so diligently trying to reach her other more hidden burden was for her family. I am writing this on behalf of Hester because through conversations with her I know she would want this to be said. Her children wanted little to do with her for a majority of her life. She wanted so desperately to have a meaningful relationship with them. She loved them deeply and shed many tears for them. With this being said, I pray that her children will not only find peace in knowing how dearly she loved them but also in some way allow Hester's legacy to live on in their lives. I pray they would inhabit her traits and desire to help others need. -Rest in the arms of Jesus, Hester. You will be missed.-

Ms. Berry was an amazing woman and I will never forget her. I wish I could say that I met her under different circumstances but it really doesn't matter how I met her, I am just grateful that I did. She dedicated herself and her time to come into the jail every week to bring us the word but she did so much more then just share the message. Its a dark lonely place behind those walls but for that one hour every week when Ms. Berry came she was a Ray of sunshine. I'm not sure if she knew it or not but she gave so many women hope and inspiration! A beautiful woman with a huge heart! You will be missed Ms. Berry! My prayers are with her family and friends! You should be proud of of who she was and all that she did. Ms .Berry touched so many hearts and she will not be forgotten!

Hester became a christian at the age of 57. She changed right away and never went back to her wordly ways. She would never miss a service at church unless she was ill. God was #1 in her life and this was evident in her boldness and desire to witness for Him.
Soon after she accepted Jesus as her savior she started a prison ministry at the Cumberland County jail with the women. Never missing a week at the jail for Bible study again unless she was ill.
Her heart was for the poor, the lonely, the hungry and those that had no one in their life. Most of all she was faithful and obedient to her Lord and savior Jesus Christ.
I started an after jail ministry with Hester about 10 years ago.We would try to find the girls that became saved through her ministry and encourage them to come to church. If we could not find them to come to church. If we could not find them the first time we would try the next week. She loved being used by God in this way and never gave up.
Hester was my very good friend and she said I was hers. We talked about many things but mostly working for the Lord. I have no doubt that she received many crowns to cast at the feet of Jesus. I am so happy that she has now joined the church triumphant.

I am sorry for the loss of your dear Hester. We struggle with the question of why something like this happens, why people even have to die at all. God hates when things like this happen. He has a purpose that includes "death being no more" -Rev. 21:3, 4, as well as promising to “undo” death with the resurrection of our loved ones – John 5:28, 29. Currently the world is "lying in the power of the wicked one", but not for much longer. This hope has helped me get through some tough times and I hope it helps you now. When some time has passed, feel free to visit www.jw.org for more comfort. Again, I am sorry for your loss. MN
