Obituary of George M. Mayhew

George M. Mayhew, Jr., 74, of Stow Creek Twp. died unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, October 22, 2016. Born in Bridgeton, he was the son of the late George M. Mayhew and Lou Gandy Mayhew and had been a Stow Creek Twp. resident for the past 26 years. He had lived in Shiloh prior to that. George served his country as a United States Army Veteran and was stationed in Germany during his service time. A nurseryman, he owned and operated Log Cabin Nursery in Stow Creek and had also been previously employed as an aircraft mechanic with Airwork Corp. in Millville. An avid hunter, he especially enjoyed hunting in Canada and Alabama bagging over 200 deer through his hunting career. Surviving are his three children, Karen L. Holt (Robert) of Fairfield Twp., Terri K. Battiata (Tom) of Bridgeton and Lee A. Mayhew (Sissy) of Hopewell Twp.; four grandchildren, Megan West, Garritt Mayhew, Brianna Mayhew and Olivia Mayhew and a brother, Robert Mayhew (Janet) of Bridgeton. Services will be held at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Twp. on Friday evening, October 28th at 7:00 PM. Friends will be received from 5 to 7 PM prior to the services at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions in George’s memory be made to the Cumberland County SPCA, 1244 North Delsea Drive, Vineland, NJ 08360.
