Martha B. Gandy, 96, of Newport passed away on Friday, November 18, 2016 at Inspira Medical Center-Vineland.
Born in Newport and a lifetime Newport resident, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Batten and Helen Schafer Batten and the wife of the late Charles Gandy.
Before her retirement, she had been employed at the former F.W. Woolworth Store in Bridgeton, the Prudential Insurance Co. in Millville and the former Owens-Illinois Glass Co. in Bridgeton.
Mrs. Gandy was a longtime member of the Newport Baptist Church.
Surviving are her daughter, Sandra Ayars of FL; two sons, William E. Knipe, III and James W. Knipe, Sr. both of Newport; one brother, Clarence “Snooks” Batten of Millville and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two sisters, Dorothy Gandy and Leona Cobb.
Graveside funeral services will be held at the Old Stone Church Cemetery in Fairfield Twp. on Wednesday, November 23rd at 10 AM where the interment will follow the services.
