John Nusbaumer, 83, of Newport and formerly of Haddonfield died unexpectedly on Friday, November 18, 2016 at Inspira Medical Center-Vineland.
Born in Haddonfield to the late Francis Xavier Nusbaumer and Christine Gleeson Nusbaumer, he was the husband of Gail Field Nusbaumer. He had been a resident of Newport for the past 16 years and before that he had lived in Haddonfield for most of his life.
Prior to his retirement, John had served as captain of the Ambulance squad for the Haddonfield Fire Co. #1 for over 25 years. Before that he had worked as an officer of the Haddonfield Police Department for 10 years and as Haddonfield Borough Clerk for 10 years. He had also worked as a reporter for the Courier Post for many years. John had been a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Civil Air Patrol and a licensed pilot of small planes. John was a founding and active member of the Silver Bullets which is an organization for retired detectives and police officers. He also volunteered his time at the Millville Army Airfield Museum at the Millville airport and for the National Park Service on the New Jersey Costal Heritage Trail. In his free time, he enjoyed working with his hand and building things.
He is survived by; his wife, Gail Nusbaumer of Newport; two sons, Tad Nusbaumer of Jasper, TN and Paul Nusbaumer of Mount Ephraim; a daughter, Audrey Sykes of Evesham Twp.; three sisters, Fraces Cubbit of Evesham Twp., Ruth Weiler of Philadelphia, PA and Joan Hannigan of Magnolia and six grandhchildren. He was preceded in death by; a brother, Robert Nusbaumer and two sisters, Betty Nusbaumer and Phyllis Wilson.
Memorial Services were held at the Haddonfield Fire Co. on Tuesday, November 22nd at 10 AM. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, Cedarville. Written condolences can be sent to the family through the funeral home website at www.padgettfuneralhomes.com.
