Obituary of Audrey K. Reynolds

Audrey K. Reynolds, 80, of Newport, passed away on Friday evening May 4, 2012 at South Jersey Regional Medical Center. Born in Jersey City, she grew up in Wycoff, NJ. She later resided in Fortescue for many years before living in Newport. She attended Paterson State College prior to employment by the U.S. Navy at Anacosta Naval Air Station in Anacosta, VA. Upon returning to NJ, Audrey graduated from Glassboro State College and Rutgers Graduate School obtaining a Masters degree in Elementary Education and Administration. She was employed by the Commercial Township Board of Education for 32 years. She held positions as a teacher, principal and coordinator of auxiliary programs. She was president of the Commercial Township Education Association where she was awarded the teacher of the year award, outstanding Elementary Classroom Teacher (1978) and winner of the NJ Department of Education mini grant for language development. She served as the secretary of the Cumberland County Education Association and President of the Downe Township Board of Education for seven years of the 13 years she was a member. She was also a member of the Downe Township Planning Board. After her retirement, she worked a certified mediator for the family division of the NJ superior court, serving Cumberland and Salem counties. She also obtained an associates degree as a paralegal. She was a Sunday school teacher and director of summer bible school at Fortescue Chapel. She was also the president of the Fortescue Fire Company ladies auxiliary. In her later years, she enjoyed her grandchildren and their continuing education was of great interest to her. She is survived by; her children, Sharon Mints and her husband Jay of Maine, Jackie Mints and her husband Ted of Newport, John Reynolds and his wife Tammi of Newport, and Kathy Bruce and he companion John of Millville; her beloved sister and brother-in-law Elayne and Thomas McGill of Allendale; nine grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 3 nieces and 7 nephews. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday morning May 9, 2012 at 11 AM at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 160 Main Street, Cedarville. A viewing will be held from 10 AM to 11 AM prior to the services. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, a scholarship fund in her memory will be established at a later date or a donation to a charity of one's choice in her memory.
