Obituary of Hilda Lillie Clark

Hilda Lillie Clark (nee Downs), 73, of Elmer passed away peacefully at her home on March 15, 2018 and entered the presence of her Savior, Jesus Christ.

She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Gene L. Clark, by her dear sister Lois Fithian (wife of Russell) of Alloway, by her much-adored grandson Dean L. Clark (engaged to Ashley) of Elmer, and by many precious nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Hilda was born at home on March 30, 1944 to Frank Downs and Martha Downs (nee Woody) in Gloucester County. She was predeceased by her parents, by her sister Emily Gandy (nee Downs), and by her son David L. Clark.

She attended Woodstown High School and later worked at Richman's Ice Cream, Mater Dei Nursing Home, and Upper Pittsgrove School. She was an active member of Christ Community Baptist Tabernacle for many years, where she taught Sunday School and ministered to women in local prisons.

Hilda will be forever remembered for her gentle and giving spirit. With Gene by her side, Hilda spent much of her time preparing meals for shut-ins and baking hundreds of loaves of pumpkin bread to bless others. She loved to tell jokes and to make people laugh. She knew her Bible well and was always quick to encourage others in her soft-spoken way. She enjoyed keeping in touch with many friends online and cuddling with her little dog, Mickey.

Funeral Services will be held at Christ Community Baptist Tabernacle, 188 Harding Highway, Newfield on Tuesday, March 20th at 11 AM. Interment will take place at Eglington Cemetery in Clarksboro. Friends will be received at the church from 10 AM to 11 AM prior to the services.
