Obituary of Spencer Lewis Cottman, Sr.

Spencer Lewis Cottman, Sr., 84, of Vineland passed away unexpectedly on Friday, August 24, 2018 at Inspira Medical Center-Vineland.

Born in Whitestone, VA to the late Herman Cottman and Lillian Fauntleroy Cottman, he was the husband of Vernetta Hull Cottman. Spencer had been a resident of Vineland for the past 26 years and prior to that he had lived in Port Norris.

He had been employed by Wheaton Glass Co. in Millville for 23 years and had also worked in the seafood industry before that. Spencer was a member and senior deacon at Shiloh Baptist Church in Port Norris and sang with the South Jersey Men's Choir. In his free time, he was an avid fisherman and hunter.

He is survived by; his wife, Vernetta Cottman of Vineland; eight children, James Hull of Vineland, Spencer Cottman, Jr. of Vineland, Vernetta Ramsey of Vineland, Barry Cottman of Vineland, Deanna Cottman-Scarbrough of Vineland, Darryl Cottman of Vineland, Selina Lucas of NC and Juanita Cottman of Vineland; a brother, Herman Cottman of VA; two sisters, Lillian Peavy of Pittman and Ann Davis of Camden and 121 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by; a son, Leroy Cottman and two brothers, Sherman Cottman and Roy Cottman.

Funeral services will be held at Union Baptist Temple, 30 Martin Luther King, Jr. Way, Bridgeton on Tuesday, September 4th at 11 AM. Interment will take place at Haleyville Methodist Cemetery in Commercial Twp. Friends will be received at the church from 9 AM to 11 AM prior to the services.
