Obituary of Orestes M. Artis

Orestes Miniso Artis (also known as Uncle Charlie) was born to the late Haywood and Dollie Mae Dove Artis on June 6, 1952 in Millville, NJ and departed this life on October 21, 2020.
Orestes was educated in the Millville School System. He was very active in football during his high school years. He worked for many years doing construction and masonry work. He later joined the United States Marine Corp, the United States Air Force, the United States Air National Guard and the United States Army National Guard.
One of his favorite songs was “Blood in Blood Out Always Faithful”. His favorite past time was spending time with his family and watching the Eagles play. Orestes also enjoyed painting and doing construction work.
There was nothing in life more important to Orestes (Charlie) than his family and God. He enjoyed spending time with his close friend and brother-in-law, Alexander (Bish) Ratliffe and close nephews, Melvin Moss, Leroy Church, Carlos (Man) Artis and his cousin, Rick Meyers.
Orestes was preceded in death by; his daughter, Keisha N. Artis; his parents, Dolly Mae and Haywood Artis; his sisters, Barbara Artis Satchell, Belma Artis Church and Juanita Artis Moss; his brothers, Haywood (Bubbles) Artis, Jr., Jerome (Blue) Artis, Marisa Artis and Jerome Artis Satchell.
Orestes leaves to cherish his memory; his wife, Denise Ball Artis; nine children, twelve grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He also leaves to cherish his memory; four sisters, Joann Artis Pender of Vineland; Selena Artis of Vineland, Maria Ratliffe (Alexander) of Vineland, Lisa Mae Satchell Phillips (David) of Vineland; nieces; Iris Goldsboro and Velvery Church Shapiro; nephew Leroy Church, and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. A visitation will be held at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Twp. on Saturday, October 31th from 9 AM to 11 AM. Interment will take place at Cumberland County Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Hopewell Twp. Due to current regulations associated with the Covid-19 healthcare situation, we are limited to 50 people within the funeral home at a time and the understanding and cooperation of the public is greatly appreciated.
