Obituary of Juan R. Rosario

Juan R. Rosario, 89, of New Castle, DE and formerly of Salem, NJ most of his life passed away at the Southgate Healthcare Center in Carney's Point on Friday, April 2, 2021. Born in Manati, Puerto Rico, he was the son of the late Daniel Rosario and Romona Maisonet Rosario. In the early 1950's he emigrated to the continental United States with the assistance of farm workers in Glassboro, NJ. Throughout the 1950's and in the 1960's he worked on farms in Delaware, Pennsylvania and Florida. During the late 1960's he became employed with the Anchor Hocking Company in Salem where he served as a link between the Hispanic community and Anchor Hocking which opened the door to many other Hispanics. During that time he also served as a part-time Police Officer for the City of Salem. He was a founding member of what would become PRAC, the Puerto Rican Action Committee of Southern New Jersey, where he also had served as the organizations president. He later became employed with the South Jersey Medical Center and retired in 2007. Mr. Rosario was also involved with the Salem City Housing Authority and Loyal Order of Elks. Surviving are his two sons, Juan Antonio Rosario and Parvin Rosario of New Castle, DE; two stepchildren, Sonja Sutton and William Rosario; two sisters, Hilda in Puerto Rico and Anna in Salem; three brothers, Ismael in MA, Jose in Puerto Rico and Cecilio in Salem, 8 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Angel Rosario and a sister, Catalina Rosario. Services will be held at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Township on Saturday, April 10th at 10:30 AM. A walk through visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 AM prior to the services. Additional services and burial will take place in Puerto Rico on April 17, 2021.
