William O. Johnson, 84, of Port Norris passed away on Tuesday, April 13, 2021 at Inspira Medical Center in Vineland. Born in Port Norris to the late Joseph Johnson, Sr. and Maude Harris Johnson, he was the husband of Vearnel Lee Johnson. William had been a resident of Port Norris most of his life. Prior to his retirement in 2000, he had been employed at Gorton's Seafood in Millville for several years. William had been previously employed on a clam boat porting out of Point Pleasant for over 50 years. He was a member of John Wesley United Methodist Church in Port Norris where he sang in the choir. In his free time, William enjoyed tending to his garden where he grew pole beans, tomatoes and peppers. He also raised farm animals for slaughter and enjoyed crabbing. He is survived by; his wife, Vearnel Lee Johnson of Port Norris; his children, William O. Johnson, Jr. (Gloria) of Port Norris, Darrel A. Johnson of Port Norris, Ronald A. Johnson of Port Norris, Glendon Johnson (Brenda) of Millville, Earl Johnson of Port Norris, Kevan L. Johnson of Port Norris and Spring D. Johnson of Vineland; two special grandsons, Kevan “Fella” L. Johnson of Woodbine and Larry “King” Jones, Jr. of Millville; his siblings, Joseph Johnson, Jr. (Sylvia), Delvetta Thompson of Bridgeton, Rosalyn Thompson of Port Norris, Stafon Thompson of Port Norris, Gail Thompson of Port Norris, Beverly Thompson of Millville and Roger Thompson of Louisiana; the Lee family and a host of other grandchildren, nieces, nephews cousins and other family members. Besides his parents, William was preceded in death by; two brothers, Randy Thompson and Clark Johnson and a grandson, Glendon Johnson, Jr. He will be sorrowfully missed by his family. Funeral services will be held at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State Highway 77, Bridgeton on Thursday, April 22nd at 11 AM. Interment will take place at Haleyville Methodist Cemetery in Commercial Twp. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 9 AM to 11 AM prior to the services. Due to current regulations associated with the Covid-19 healthcare situation, we are limited to 75 people within the funeral home at a time and the understanding and cooperation of the public is greatly appreciated.
