Joseph C. Turpin Jr., 81, of Hopewell Twp passed away on Monday, February 28, 2022 at his home following an extended illness.
He was born and raised in Fairfield Twp. to the late Joseph C. Turpin Sr. and Mary Ruth Hitchner Turpin, he was the husband of Madora Stevens Turpin. Joseph resided in Bridgeton from 1970 to 2016 before moving to Hopewell Twp. He retired from the Bridgeton Police Department after 20 years of service, prior to that he had worked for Coca Cola and 7UP in Bridgeton and Wheaton Tubing in Millville. Joseph was a proud veteran of the United States Navy.
In his free time, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandson, Matthew. He loved metal detecting, history, cooking, animals, and taking his children to the movies. Joseph was a history buff who enjoyed reading books about wars and learning about the history of Cumberland County. He enjoyed to cooking, especially seafood. Spending summers in Sea Isle with his family was one of his favorite pastimes. Joseph was an avid animal lover, often rescuing strays and finding them homes. He loved his cat Bootsy, but his favorite pet was his Bulldog, Tank, who has since passed.
He is survived by; his wife of 52 years, Dorie Turpin of Hopewell Twp; his son, Greg Turpin (Katharine) of Manahawkin; his grandson, Matthew; his siblings, Joan Welden and Daniel Turpin both of Fairfield Twp. and his favorite cousin, Celeste Hitchner-Stevens. He was preceded in death by; his parents; his daughter, Jennifer Turpin; his dog, Tank and his son, Joseph Turpin III, who passed November 20th, 2021.
Funeral services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
