Obituary of Louis "John" J. Springer III

Louis Joseph “John” Springer, III, of Newport, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on March 8, 2022. Born on February 19, 1953 at Millville Hospital, John was a lifetime resident of Newport and a 1971 graduate of Bridgeton High School. He was known by both John and Louis throughout his life after being given the nickname by his father. He and his wife, Rita Pino Springer, met while they were both working at the Cumberland Manor, and they were married for 35 years. John was instrumental in starting the Downe Township EMS in 1976 and worked for many years as an EMT, and later for the New Jersey Department of Human Services. He was most recently employed at BJ’s Wholesale Club and was previously employed at Cumberland Regional High School and Smith & Richard’s Lumber. John was an eminently talented artist and was adept at carpentry, construction, drawing, painting, and sculpting. Many of his works are dotted around South Jersey at friends’ homes. He was also an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed canoeing, kayaking, fishing, hunting, camping, and bike riding with his family. He was predeceased by his father, Louis Springer; mother, Evelyn (née Lore) Springer; brother, Robert Solomon; and mother-in-law, Jean (née Elwell) Pino. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Jonathan and Christian; brother, John Springer (Caroline); sister, Gale Springer-Chorpash (Randy); father-in-law, Dominic Pino, Sr.; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service on Saturday, March 26, at 11 AM at the Dividing Creek Baptist Church, 929 Union St., Dividing Creek, NJ 08315. Guests will be received at the church at 9:30 AM. prior to the funeral. The interment will be made at the Bateman Cemetery in Newport. Memorial contributions may be made to the Dividing Creek Baptist Church.
