Obituary of Agnes M. Holton
Please share a memory of Agnes to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Agnes Marie Holton, 93, of Pittsgrove passed away suddenly on Friday, November 18, 2022.
Born in Bridgeton to the late Elmer D. Blizzard and Arabella Shaffer Blizzard, she was predeceased by her late husband Earl G. Holton, her sister Nona L. Snyder, her brother-in-law Harry W. Snyder, and her son-in-laws Jann A. Whitson and Ed Myers, Sr.
Agnes was a graduate of Bridgeton High School Class of 1947. Prior to her retirement, she worked as a server at the Centerton Inn, Brad’s Red Tavern, and the Centerton Country Club. While in high school, she worked at the former PJ Ritter Company in Bridgeton. She was a member of the Echo Rebecka Lodge #96 in Centerton, and she was a member of the Women of the Moose in Bridgeton as well as the Elks. She also volunteered time at the Centerton Fire Hall.
Throughout her life, Agnes loved roller skating, dancing, and traveling. She often spent her summers at the Wildwood shore and her winters surrounded by friends in Englewood, Florida. She took many trips to Walt Disney World over the years, and she was always drawn to anything with Tinkerbell on it. Agnes loved teddy bears, animals, and babies, and she could often be found holding her dog Cookie or one of her great-grandbabies. She also loved anything sweet, and she was never one to turn away a Happy Hour martini.
Agnes was the life of every party, and she was always up for an adventure. She never failed to make people laugh, and her warmth and kindness were unparalleled. She had an uncanny ability to turn her friends into family, and she was everyone’s “Mom” or “Mommom.” Agnes is a perfect example of a life well lived. The world was a better place because she was in it, and her grateful family will miss her dearly.
She is survived by her children: Sharon Myers (Ed), Susan May (Wayne), Sandra Whitson (Jann), and Earl Holton (Mary Ellen), her grandchildren: Wayne May, Jr. (Shelly), Ed Myers, Jr. (Crystal), Brian May (Nicole), Kristofer Myers, Jaime DeVita (Joshua), Janine Whitson-West (Ryan), Brendan Holton (LeeAnn), Samantha Scarfo (Shawn), and Christopher Weed, and her great-grandchildren: Nathan May (Sarah), Ashley May, Michael Myers, Alex Myers, Jonathan May, Christian May, Natalie May, Jillian May, Jack West, Emelina West, Dean West, Finnegan DeVita, Alex DeVita, Liam Holton, Luke Holton, Shane Scarfo, Scarlett Scarfo, and Shep Scarfo.
A graveside service will be held privately at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Agnes’ memory to the Centerton Fire Company at 64 Dealtown Road, Pittsgrove, NJ 08318 or to Friendship Finley United Methodist Church at 252 Centerton Road, Bridgeton, NJ 08302.
