Obituary of Emma "Lucille" Doyle

Emma “Lucille” Doyle (nee Smith), age 85, passed away on March 29, 2023. Lucille grew up in Newark, NJ and graduated from Westside High School. After high school, Lucille married the love of her life Robert “Bob” Doyle in December of 1956. Lucille and Bob were married for over 64 years prior to Bob’s death in June 2021. Lucille was passionate about her family, her faith, and her community. While raising her 14 children, she was also a community organizer, Girl Scout leader, Boy Scout den mother, and 4-H leader. Lucille was also an amazing educator. After raising her children, Lucille enrolled in Seton Hall University to become an elementary school teacher. Awarded Teacher of the Year for the Archdiocese of Newark, NJ, Lucille taught at Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament School and St. Joseph’s School in East Orange, NJ, and Notre Dame Regional School in Newfield, NJ. Lucille loved being with her many children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, especially during family sing-a-longs. And let’s not forget her love of pets and nature. She enjoyed traveling, reading, and helping others. Lucille was always up for an adventure, a craft, or a simple conversation that turned into a life lesson. Her greatest legacy is her family, friends, and the thousands of students she taught and inspired by being a true example of her Catholic faith through her love, kindness, and generosity. Lucille was preceded in death by her parents Bernard and Emma (nee Newbauer), brother Bernard, sons Martin and John, granddaughter Tameaka, and grandson Eric. She is survived by her 12 children: Robert Jr. (ToniAnn (nee Mazza), Patricia McCoy (Patrick), Kathryn, Dennis, Peter, James, Matthew (Minda (nee Gonzales), Frances, Bridgid Ramos (Lazaro), Steven (Gwen (nee Goble), Harry, and Mary Troy; 20 grandchildren: Marissa Davis, John (Leah (nee Winn), Kerri Bridgers (Paul), James McCoy (Aica Beronilla), Casey Smith (Stephen), Heather Heinnickel (Mark), Keaton (Genean (nee Pierce), David, Frances Burch (Ian), Isabela, Sophia, Sierra Johnson, Lazaro Ramos Jr, Marc Ramos, Claudia Summerell (Adam), Megan, Robert & Emma Troy; and 17 great-grandchildren: Abigail & Anthony Doyle, Sean & Benjamin Bridgers, Zyne McCoy, Camden and Luka Smith, Marcus & Nora Heinnickel, Bionce, Amyia, Cianni, Kamara & Keaton Doyle, Jr, and Aidan, Cali, & Cobi Summerell). The funeral liturgy will be celebrated at the Parish of the Holy Cross, St. Michael's Church, 367 Main St, Cedarville, NJ 08311 on Wednesday, April 5 at 11 AM. Interment will take place at Laurel Lawn Cemetery in Upper Deerfield Twp. A visitation will be held at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Twp. on Tuesday evening April 4th from 5 PM to 8 PM.
