Obituary of Pearl C. Mathews

Pearl C. Mathews, 61, of Pleasantville, NJ passed away following injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident on Sunday, June 18, 2023. Born in Bridgeton to the late James Mathews and Carrie Byrd Mathews, he was the husband of Linda Mosley. Pearl had been born and raised in Bridgeton but had lived in Pleasantville for the past 30 years. Pearl had worked in the casino industry most of his career. Most recently as head of security at the Atlantic Palace and as a chef at multiple different Atlantic City Casinos. He was a veteran of the United States Army National Guard. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, cooking, riding his motorcycle and being a family man to his children, nieces, nephews and grandchildren. He was deeply devoted to his Christian faith. He is survived by; his wife, Linda Mathews; his daughters, Anna Taylor (Kentrell) of Vineland, Lanika Mathews of Salem; his son, Phil Mathews of Millville; siblings, James, Alvis, Delese, Dorothy, Mamie, and Tracey; ten grandchildren, Dayquan, Tyrek, Alexy, Imani, Kaila, Kentrell, Jr., Averyana, Aaliyah, Amouri and Shaaliyah; and special friend Gail. He was preceded in death by; his parents, James and Carrie Mathews; his son, Bill Matthews; his sisters, Annie Mae, Gloria; and his brother, Dannie. Funeral services will be held at Bethlehem Revival Temple, 37 South Ave., Bridgeton, on Wednesday, June 28th, at 11AM. Friends will be received at the church from 9AM to 11AM prior to the services. Interment will take place after services at Fernwood Memorial Park, 794 Shiloh Pike, Bridgeton, NJ.
