Obituary of Joseph Dennis Ordille, Sr.

Please share a memory of Joseph to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Joseph (Joe) Dennis Ordille was born February 16, 1939 in Philadelphia, PA, the son of Paul and Viola (Cipolla) Ordille. Ordille grew up in Bridgeton and attended Bridgeton High School. After high school he started working at Seabrook Farms in 1956, where he was a valuable and loyal employee until 1982 when the facility closed. He continued his career at Safeway Warehousing in Vineland, NJ and worked there until his retirement. Ordille was an avid Philly sports fan. Loving the Eagles, Sixers, and A’s (who were originally a Philly team). He was an active athlete, playing basketball, football, and baseball throughout his childhood. In fact, Joe was the first person to hit a baseball out of Alden Field. Unfortunately, poor Joe was talking to the 3rd baseman and forgot to touch the base and was only credited for a double. He was also known to have a “sweet” jump shot. In 1955, he met his wife Jane Ewald. He said the way she smiled at him caught his eye. They would go on to marry on September 24, 1958 and have two sons Paul and Joseph Jr. Though he was hard working, he was a dedicated father. He took lessons and played piano with his son, Paul who loved music. Additionally, he coached his son, Joey’s championship baseball teams at North Cumberland. Unlike some of the other coaches, he wanted to coach the children who were not the stars of the team. He loved watching every kid improve their game throughout the season. His dedication to family did not stop with his children. He was active in the lives of his 5 grandchildren. He visited often when they lived in Erie, PA, vacationed with them to the Jersey shore, and most importantly took them to sports practices and cheered them on in the stands at all of their soccer, basketball, baseball, and track and field events. In fact, his retirement came slightly earlier than expected when he learned that he was expected to work during his granddaughter’s state championship track and field meet. When he wasn’t working or at sporting events he loved listening to music, going to the beach, playing chess, going to the casino, and especially “fighting” with his son Joey about Cowboys vs. Eagles. Ordille passed away in his home with his wife and son, Joey by his side on the evening of June 24, 2024. He is predeceased by his parents and his son, Paul Ordille. He is survived by his wife, Jane Ordille, his son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Mary Ordille, his sister, Janet Hill, and his nieces, Cindy Hill and Beth (Jeremy) Keulwein. his five grandchildren include Daniel Ordille, Allyson (Alec) Higinbotham, Michael Ordille, Joseph Ordille, and Casey Ordille. his one great-grandchild is Caleb Higinbotham.
