Obituary of Delese Marie Mathews

Our beloved mother and grandmother Delese Marie Mathews, known to family as "Dish", 64, of Pennsville, NJ passed away suddenly on Monday, August 5, 2024 at her home. She was born on August 29, 1959 in Bridgeton, NJ to the late James C. Mathews Sr. and Carrie Mae Mathews. She was a resident of Pennsville briefly before her passing. Prior to retirement, Delese worked as a blackjack dealer at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Connecticut and various casinos in Atlantic City throughout her career. Delese had a strong belief in God and enjoyed singing gospel music with her beautiful voice, she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and had a passion for shopping and "staying sharp". Her favorite color was lime green like her birthstone Peridot. If you knew Delese you know she did not hesitate to help or encourage others however she wasn't afraid to tell it like it is. She leaves to cherish her memories; two daughters, Takesha Mathews and Tammy Mathews; five grandchildren, Shaniah Berrios, Brian Taylor, Brianna Miller, Destiny Miller and Jazya Mathews; one great grandson, Kamoir Johnson; five siblings, James Mathews Jr, Dorothy Kirkland, Mamie Mathews, Alvis Mathews and Tracey Mathews; and a host of family and friends. She was preceded in death by; her parents, James and Carrie Mathews; daughter, Delese Mathews; two brothers, Danny Mathews and Pearl Mathews; and two sisters, Annie Mae Willams and Gloria Knight. Mom, you can rest peacefully now in God's loving arms, you will be loved and dearly missed. Funeral services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
