Obituary of Elaine F. Middleton

Elaine F. Middleton, 84, of Fairfield Twp. passed away on Tuesday, September 17, 2024 at Spring Oak Assisted Living in Vineland. Born in Bridgeton to the late Newlin J. Pettit and Mertie H. Messick Pettit, she had been the wife of the late George Middleton. She had been a member of the Fairfield Presbyterian Church and a Fairfield Twp. resident all of her life. She was a graduate of the Bridgeton High School class of 1958. “It's a great day at Novick's Auto Mall, Elaine speaking, how may I direct your call?” This greeting is probably how most remembered Elaine, as the happy and peppy receptionist from Novick's Auto Mall in Bridgeton. Prior to working at Novick's she preformed secretarial responsibilities at Bianco Brothers and Cherry Street School. She believed one of the most important things in life was how you treated others, whether friend, family or stranger, and she believed that God put her on Earth to help others. In her free time, she enjoyed attending church, getting her hair done, and visiting the Cedarville Senior Center where she was known as the Bingo Queen. She is survived by; her sister, Patsy (Bruce) Morris of Millville; special niece and nephew Debbie and Richard Pettit; and many extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by; her husband, George Middleton; her parents, Newlin and Mertie Pettit; three brothers, Newlin “John” Pettit Jr., Albert Pettit, and Aaron “Ernie” Pettit; and one sister, Mary Linda Hitchner. A Memorial service will be held at 10 AM on Thursday, September 26th at Fairfield Presbyterian Church, 53 Main St., Bridgeton, NJ. Friends will be received at the church at 9:30 AM prior to the services. Interment will take place at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Lawrence Twp. following the services.
