Obituary of Fern E. George

Fern Elizabeth George, 88, of Cape May Court House and formerly of Bridgeton passed away peacefully on August 16, 2013 at home surrounded by family and loved ones. The daughter of the late William Hackett and Pearl Hartley Hackett she was born on October 30, 1924 in Bridgeton, where she had resided all of her life except for the past seven months due to declining health. Prior to her retirement in 1988, she had been employed with the Cumberland County Sheriff's Department as principle clerk and bookkeeper for 22 years. She had also previously worked with the NJ Bell Telephone Co. as an Operator. Fern had been a member of the Mead-Woodward Post 1795-VFW, Aux., Bridgeton, American Legion Shoemaker Post 95 Ladies Aux., Bridgeton and the Millville Democratic Club. A graduate of the Bridgeton High School Class of 1943, she enjoyed reading, the beach, crocheting and spending time with her family and beloved cat BG. She is survived by her three loving children, Connie Simpkins, Carol Hamann (Ronald Sr.) and William George (Doris); her five grandchildren, Toni Torres (Jose), Ronald Hamann, Jr. (Rachel), Deanna Brooks (Daryl), David Hamann, Sr. (Andrea) and William George II; eight great-grandchildren, Julie, Halley, Katie, Maxwell, David, Jr., Evan, Maria and Tia and nieces and nephews Jeff Hackett, Cindy Anderson and Leigh Detrino. Funeral services will be held at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Twp. on Wed., August 21st at 11 AM. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 10 to 11 AM prior to the services. Burial will take place at Overlook Cemetery in Bridgeton.
