Obituary of George K. Bruhnke

George K. Bruhnke, 77, of Upper Deerfield Twp. died on Thursday, October 10, 2013 at Inspira Healthcare Regional Medical Center in Vineland following a brief illness. Born in Sassin, Germany on January 19, 1936 to the late George H. Bruhnke and Freda Golchert Bruhnke, he was the husband of Judy Fordyce Bruhnke. George and his family relocated to Seabrook from Germany in 1951and he had been an Upper Deerfield Twp. resident most of his life. Prior to his retirement, he had been employed by Seabrook Bros. and Sons as a welder. He had also worked as a mechanic for Seabrook Farms. George was a veteran of the United States Army where he served in Germany during the Korean Conflict after receiving training in New York State. He was an avid fisherman and a mechanical jack-of-all-trades who could fix just about anything. He also loved to bowl and play pool. He had served as Assistant Chief of the Seabrook Volunteer Fire Department and was also chairman of the building committee. He was a member of St John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bridgeton for over 60 years. He is survived by his wife, Judy of Upper Deerfield Twp.; a brother, Dieter Bruhnke and his wife Elsbeth of Milwaukee, WI and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ernest Bruhnke and two sisters. Funeral Services will be held at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Twp. on Thursday, October 17th at 1 PM. Interment will take place at Laurel Lawn Cemetery in Upper Deerfield Township. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 12 PM to 1 PM prior to the services. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Mr. Bruhnke's memory be made to St. Johns First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 59 Oak Street, Bridgeton, NJ 08302 or Seabrook Volunteer Fire and Ambulance Association, 90 Foster Rd., Seabrook, NJ 08302.
