Obituary of Ruby McClendon

Ruby McClendon, 85, of Bridgeton went home to be with the Lord on Friday, November 8, 2013 at Inspira Regional Medical Center in Vineland following a lengthy illness. Born in Moultrie, GA on December 9, 1927 to the late Clave Haynes and Irene Donnason Haynes, she was the wife of the late Alphonso McClendon, Sr. She had been a resident of Bridgeton since 1954. Prior to her retirement, Ruby had been employed by the Vineland Developmental Center as a caregiver for over 10 years. She had also been employed by PJ Ritters and Hunt's Canning in Bridgeton. She was a former member of St. Phillips Missionary Baptist Church in Bridgeton and New Hope Baptist Church in Cedarville. Ruby was also a former Daughter Ruler and member of the Bridgeton Elks Lodge 979. She enjoyed playing bingo and visiting the casino. She loved to cook for friends and family. Ruby was known to have an extension cord with everybody's name on it. She is survived by; six children, Wanda Haynes and her husband John Willingham of Seabrook, Mark McClendon and his wife Dorothy of NC, Alphonso McClendon, Jr. and his wife Nadine of Bridgeton, LaBaron McClendon and his wife Samantha of Vineland, David McClendon and his wife Sonya of Bridgeton and Iris Wynder and her husband Charles of Seabrook; two step-children, Charles Robinson of VA and Joe Nelson of Millville; cousins, James H. and Haddie M. Burden of Seabrook a long time friend, Elaine Copes of Bridgeton; 42 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren, other family members and friends. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by; five children, Alice Haynes, Otis Griffin, Lynwood Haynes, Annaretha McClendon and Ruby B. McClendon; three sisters, two brothers and a step-son, Harry McClendon. Funeral services will be held at the Glory Tabernacle Church, 1018 Buckshutem Rd. Bridgeton on Thursday, November 14th at 11 AM. Interment will take place at Cedar Hill Memorial Park in Hopewell Twp. Friends will be received at the church from 9 AM to 11 AM prior to the services.
