Obituary of Hilda Newton

Hilda Newton, age 96, of Fairfield Township died at the South Jersey Regional Medical Center on Wednesday, September 21, 2011 following a brief illness. Mrs. Newton was born in Smyrna, Delaware on February 16, 1915 to the late George and Rachel Guy and was the wife of the late Charles Newton, Sr. She had lived in Fairfield Township for the past 55 years and had been a Bridgeton resident prior to that. Before retirement, she had been employed with the Vineland Developmental Center. She had also worked for several years at the Minot Foods Company and the P.J. Ritter Company both in Bridgeton. She was a longtime and faithful member of the John Wesley United Methodist Church in Bridgeton where she had attended for 81 years. Surviving are four sons, Charles, Jr. of Carneys Point, George of Salem, Jeffrey of Bridgeton and Dr. James Newton of Newark, Delaware; four daughters, Mary Washington of Pedricktown, Catherine Thompson of Vineland, Ann Mack of Millville and Margaret Newton of Fairfield Township; a sister, Irene Brown of Tacoma, WA, 28 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandsons. She was predeceased by a brother, George Guy, Jr. Funeral services will be held at the John Wesley United Methodist Church, 90 Rev. Matthew Brown Way, Bridgeton on Wednesday, September 28th at 12 Noon. Burial will take place at Gouldtown Memorial Park in Fairfield Township. Friends will be received at the church on Wednesday from 10 AM to 12 Noon. Arrangements are under the direction of the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, Upper Deerfield Township.
