Obituary of Walter P. Johnson

Walter P. Johnson, 93, of Upper Deerfield Twp. died on Friday, October 10, 2014 at his home under the care of Hospice. Born in Bridgeton to the late George L. Johnson and Mary Ann Prince Johnson, he was the husband of the late Dorothea L. Noss Johnson. Walter had lived at his present address since 1970. Before that he had lived in Bridgeton and from 1958 to 1963 he had lived in Ohio while working for M.C. Schrank Co. Prior to his retirement, he had been employed by Henderson’s Aquatics in Millville. He had also served as plant manager at Renoc Corp. in Millville and M.C. Schrank Co. in Bridgeton and Ohio for over 30 years. Even after his retirement, he would often fill in as plant manager at Henderson’s Aquatics. As a retirement job, he had also worked for Bridgeton Travel Trailer. Walter had been a veteran of the NJ State Guard and the United States Navy serving during WWII where he was a Mineman 2nd Class at the Naval Weapon Station in Yorktown, VA. He had been a long time member of the Fairton Christian Center in Fairfield Twp and a former member of the Bridgeton Assembly of God. He is survived by; two sons, Rodger W. Johnson and his wife Donna of Pittsgrove Twp and Bruce D. Johnson of Vineland; two grandsons, Stephen Johnson and Douglas Johnson and his wife Kelly Ann; a great-grandson, Matthew Johnson and many nieces, nephews and other family members. Besides his wife, Dorothea, he was preceded in death by; two sisters, Lillian Sayre and Edna Spoltore and a brother, Herbert Elton Johnson. Funeral services will be held at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Twp. on Thursday, October 16th at 11 AM. Interment will take place at Overlook Cemetery in Bridgeton. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 10 AM to 11 AM prior to the services. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in Walter’s memory to a charity of one’s choice.
