I met Lance Corporal Donald Erbie while covering a counter-terror exercise on the Indian Ocean island of Diego Garcia in 1982(?). I found Donald after he and his fellow Marines had spend 24 hours engaged with the opposition forces in thick jungle. The day before they had flown non-stop from Okinawa. I titled the photo "One Tired Marine" and count it as one of my favorites because of how Donald exemplifies the dedication and sacrifice of our military service members.

I photographed Lance Corporal Donald Erbie during a military exercise on the Indian Ocean of Diego Garcia in 1983 as a Navy photojournalist. His face clearly showed the exhaustion of the previous days spent with very little sleep and strenuous maneuvering through dense tropical foliage. All Americans should be grateful for and always remember his service. Paul Soutar, Derby, Kansas

I have lifted the entire Erbie family in prayer. I feel blessed and honored to have known Donald during our high school years. Donald was a sweet and kind person and his smile was contagious!
We all must realize that having people like Donald in our lives is a wonderful blessing.
I pray that the Erbie family hold onto God's unchanging hand; He will bring you all through this. You will meet up with Donald again! Bless you all!

My heartfelt condolences to the Erbie family. The Bible tells us that the man Job lost all his children to death. Like you, Job asked God, "If a man dies can he live again?" (Job 14:14). Jesus answered Job's question at John 5: 28, 29. This scripture tells us that our loving merciful God has promised to bring our dead loved ones back to life again. What a wonderful blessing from our heavenly Father Jehovah. For more information about God's blessings visit the website JW.ORG.

Heart felt condolences to all the family members left in mourning!! Wesley was a fighter! We know he is in a better place but that does not make the pain any easier. I do hope and pray that as time passes it will get a little easier on all of us. May his soul rest in peace! He is gone but will never be forgotten.
Sending all our love from Englewood and Florida!

Dont grieve for me, for now I'm free, I'm following the path God laid for me.I took his hand when I heard him call.I turned my back and left it all.I could not stay another day, To laugh, to love,to work or play, Tasks left undone must stay that way, I found that peace at the close of day, If my parting has left a void, Then fill it up with remembered joy, A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss, Oh, yes these things I too will miss, Be not burdened with times of sorrow, I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow, My life's been full, I savored much, Good friends, good times, a loved one's touch. Perhaps my time seemed all too brief, Don't lengthen it now with undue grief, Lift up your heart and share it with me, God wanted me now, He set me free! LOVE YOU ALWAYS BIG BROTHER...NIECY
