Obituary of Katherine T. Philpot-Shaw

Katherine Philpot-Shaw, age 89, of Jersey City and formerly of Bridgeton died Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at Christ Hospital in Jersey City following a brief illness. Born in Sylvania, GA on October 23, 1923 she was the daughter of the late Sam Cummings and Anna Roberts Cummings. She was predeceased by her first husband, Leon Philpot and her second husband Bishop William Shaw. She had been a resident of Jersey City since 1964 and had lived in Bridgeton and Florida prior to that. Before her retirement she had been employed with Central Industries Company in Jersey City for many years and Seabrook Farms in Upper Deerfield Township. Mrs. Philpot-Shaw was a member the Delight Pentecostal Holiness Church in Brooklyn, NY with her late husband, Bishop Shaw and had formerly served as First Lady for 17 years at the church. Surviving are five sons, Donald Bryant of Brooklyn, NY, George S. Philpot of Clementon, Ronald Philpot of Winter Haven, FL, John Philpot of Jersey City and Michael Shaw of Somerset, South Dakota and a daughter, Mary Shaw of Jersey City. She was predeceased by two sons, Jesse and Jimmy Philpot, two daughters, Audrey Bryant and Gloria Philpot, a brother, Jacob Johnson and two sisters, Rev. Inez Moore and Roberta Goss. Funeral services will be held at Glory Tabernacle Church, 1018 Buckshutem Road, Fairfield Township on Thursday, February 2nd at 11 AM. Burial will take place at Fordville Memorial Park in Fairfield Township. Friends will be received at the church on Thursday from 9 to 11 AM.
