Obituary of Audrey L. Chew

Audrey L. Chew, 77, of Upper Deerfield Twp. died on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia surrounded by her family, following her battle with Leukemia. The only child of Joseph “Reds” Lykens and Sara Brandriff Lykens, she was the wife of Louis S. Chew, Jr. Audrey had lived in Upper Deerfield Twp. for the past 50 years and prior to that had resided in Bridgeton. Before her retirement, Audrey had worked for the State of New Jersey Department of Labor as an employment interviewer in the Bridgeton and Vineland offices. She had taken time off to raise her family and then returned to work. She was a graduate of the Bridgeton High School Class 1956 and Glassboro State College Class of 1961. A member of Shiloh Seventh Day Baptist Church and the Cumberland County Historical Society, she enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren, playing rummy and flower gardening at her home. She also enjoyed dining out and day trips to Fortescue and Cape May. Besides her husband, Louis, she is survived by her son, Douglas Chew (Denise Higbee) of Fortescue; her daughter, Debora Lynn Eckert and her husband Harry of Upper Deerfield Twp. ; four grandchildren, Joseph Chew, Dana Chew, Erin Eckert and Chase Eckert; a sister-in-law, Patricia Chew Peer of Bridgeton, her two black Labradors, Finn and Skeet and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 19th at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Twp. at 11 AM. Interment will take place at Shiloh 7th Day Baptist Cemetery. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 10 AM to 11 AM prior to the services. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations in Audrey’s memory be sent to Shiloh Seventh Day Baptist Church, P.O. Box 145, Shiloh, NJ 08353.
