Mildred A. Carter, age 74, of Fairfield Township died Saturday, February 18, 2012 at the South Jersey Health Care Hospice Care Unit in Bridgeton. She had been in declining health for the past year. The wife of Richard E. Carter, Jr., she was born in Blakely, GA on October 5, 1937 to the late Elijah McAllister and Ella Ruth Powell McAllister. She had been a Fairfield Township resident for 42 years and had lived in Bridgeton prior to that. She had previously been employed with the former Chatham Dress Company in Salem. A member of the Church of Christ, she loved to cook and enjoyed vegetable gardening and fishing. Mr. and Mrs. Carter would have celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary on February 21st. In addition to her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Lalita Green of Vineland, Fernannda Lane of Fairfield Township and Karennia Turner of Millville; a son, Richard E. Carter, III of Jacksonville, FL; two brothers, Alden McAllister of Bridgeton and Glenwood McAllister of Kinder, LA, 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandson. She was predeceased by a brother, Joseph S. McAllister. Funeral services will be held at the Glory Tabernacle, 1018 Buckshutem Road, FairfieldTownship on Saturday, February 25th at 11 AM. Burial will take place at Cedar Hill Memorial Park in Hopewell Township. Friends will be received at the church on Saturday morning from 9 to 11 AM. Arrangements are under the direction of the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, Upper Deerfield Township.
