Obituary of Thomas Cobb
Please share a memory of Thomas to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Thomas Cobb left this Earth for his promised new life with Christ on Wednesday, November 4, 2015, just before his 82nd birthday. He departed on his journey from his home on Cobbs Mill Road in Alloway Township. Tom was the son of the late Warren Cobb and Evelyn Trostle Cobb.
Tom graduated from Woodstown High School in 1951. He spent two years in the United States Army serving his country at Fort Bliss, Texas. Following his stint, he came home to partner with his cousin at Thomas Cobb & Sons Lumber where he worked until he retired. He especially enjoyed his two antique cars, a 1924 Ford Model T and a 1947 Chrysler convertible that had belonged to George Agnew Chamberlain, noted author. He was a charter member of the South Jersey Region Antique Car Club of America and the Veteran Motor Car Club of America’s local chapter, Back Road Cruisers. Tom could be seen driving one or the other in local parades, sometimes escorting a beauty queen. He and his boys had just spent some days in October at the AACA Fall Meet in Hershey, PA.
Many, many good times were spent in their motorhome at a campground by the ocean at Cape Canaveral, Florida. From there he would send the cruise ships off as they passed through the Port Canaveral channel.
He was a lifelong parishioner of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Friesburg, having served on the council for many years.
Tom is survived by his wife of 59 years, Nancy (Hiles) and their two sons, David (Betty Munyan) and their son, David, Jr.; Steven (Kim Brown) and their sons, Ethan and Luke; and his sister, Susan Shields.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, Upper Deerfield Township. Written condolences can be sent to the family at www.padgettfuneralhomes.com
