Obituary of Myrtle Gordon

Myrtle Gordon, 89, of Bridgeton died on Friday, November 6, 2015 at South Jersey Extended Care following an extended illness. Born in Clarendon, Jamaica to the late Clifford Henry and Gwendolyn Rose Henry, she was the wife of Hepburn Gordon. Myrtle spent the early years of her life in Jamaica before moving to London, England in 1960. She then moved to Philadelphia in the early 1970’s where she lived until moving to Bridgeton where she spent the rest of her life. Prior to her retirement, Myrtle had worked in the Housekeeping Department for Seabrook Bros. and Sons for over 14 years. She was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Fairfield Twp. and a former member of John Wesley United Methodist Church in Bridgeton. She enjoyed cooking and baking in her free time. Myrtle also enjoyed singing hymns. Besides her husband, Hepburn, she is survived by two sisters, Mavis Rodney and her husband Sylvester of Vineland and Densy Henry of England and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and many other family members in Jamaica, England and the United States. She was preceded in death by five sisters, Lena Thomas, Rita James, Dearest Henry, Selma Henry and Lydia Henry and five brothers, Clement Henry, Percival Henry, Robert Pinnock, Kenneth Henry and Donald Henry. Funeral services will be held at St. John’s United Methodist Church, 680 Fordville Rd., Bridgeton on Saturday, November 14th at 11 AM. Interment will take place at Gouldtown Memorial Park in Fairfield Twp. Friends will be received at the church from 9 AM to 11 AM prior to the services.
